Timeshare Resorts - Another Subject.

The poet's reason for traveling to timeshare resorts was personal and simple, that is, to write. He wanted to escape to a timeshare resort during their off season. No ski area resorts in the winter. No golf season resorts in the spring, summer or fall. But it has not turned out as planned.

Instead the timeshare resorts have become another community. The poet has assimilated with the local activities of the various communities. And he has enjoyed it. An example follows.

The poet came to the Mountainview Resort area one day early, Saturday. He surprised a family friend, his wife's classmate, at a benefit supper in Parkman. The poet's friend was surprised. The friend gave them a tour of the village including his family's cemeteries. His routes go very deep in that town. Editor's note: We sell his late brother's "History of Parkman, Maine" on the Nation's Attic Used Books e-Store web page.

Then they journeyed to the Wilson Camps at the Moosehead Lake outlet and checked in. Their cabin was very close to the pier and the East Kennebec River dam. They could see and hear the dam and they hiked over to it before breakfast on Sunday.

Next they checked out, drove to Rockwood, drove around the town, toured The Birches Resort, and then entered the Maine Woods road system. They drove to the historic logging farm, Pittston Farms, for lunch. They toured the Pittston Farms museum. The poet and his wife love to tour Maine. It is truly their vacationland.

The poet and his wife study Maine. They read many articles and books about places in Maine. They attend many lectures, poetry readings and other events. They belong to many organizations in Maine and know many people. There is a lore of Maine tradition and literature on Maine living. The poet is very attracted to books about Maine places and history about the old logging camps, old railroads, sporting camps, farm living, and other places.

Passive recreation (hiking, canoeing, and kayaking), painting and photography are also interests of the poet and his wife. They keep very busy. But, poetry has become more of a casual pass time, no longer a strong objective. The poet has been winding down in this endeavor.
